This could set the standard for starry night photography for the next year as Night Sight did for low-light photography last year.
Two-minute review
It brings more balanced light to the whole scene, while intentionally highlighting certain areas of the shot and keeping already bright highlights in check, making it look more natural and aesthetically pleasing. It also preserves the elongation that makes ultra-wide photos so fun to shoot, striking a balance that inspires constant use of this camera.
A solid consistency between all three cameras telephoto, wide-angle, and ultra-wide-angle also helps to make switching less about the quality of the photo you want to take, and more about the style. Aside from this, my only other gripe is that the lens has a fixed focus, which only focuses properly when the subject is at least a meter away. Most ultra-wide cameras on smartphones have this constraint, but it would have been nice for Apple to make its late debut a little more meaningful with a variable focus.
On photos like the one of the car, I was forced to either take a step back or use the main lens, when all I wanted to do was get up close and elongate the car for a unique look. Unfortunately, that meant getting a shot with only a very small portion of the car barely in focus and the rest blurring up. The iPhone 11 Pro takes better portraits than ever before, accurately blurring out the background of a subject, while making it look natural like from a DSLR. One new addition is how you can now take Portrait mode photos with the main lens rather than being forced to rely on the telephoto lens.
With an upgraded front-facing camera, the new megapixel sensor ups the sensor size from 7 megapixels, but portrait selfies are set to snap at a cropped 7-megapixel size. And the new Slofie slow-motion selfie feature is totally fun. Speaking of slick videos, the iPhone 11 Pro certainly makes you feel like a film pro when you look at the videos you can film on this device.
Yes, even with relatively heavy usage, you can often find yourself with enough juice to get through the night and charge when you get to work. Lighter users will easily be able to use the battery for longer on the second day. Our standard screen-on test puts the phone at maximum brightness and plays a p video on Wi-Fi, where the iPhone 11 Pro scored 12 hours on the dot, with the Max clocking a little more than 10 and a half hours.
Finally, we have an watt charger in the box. Though charging speeds are much improved over the puny 5-watt chargers that took around three hours to charge the XS from zero to , it still took about 2 hours to fully charge the iPhone 11 Pro.
This falls behind most fast-charging Android flagships that are closer to 90 minutes or less. As always, you can pay for it outright or with interest-free monthly installments from Apple, your carrier, and most electronics retailers. The iPhone 11 Pro is an excellent smartphone that just works.

Tack on a beefier battery that delivers results, and you have the all-around best smartphone in the game right now. Battery life may start to degrade noticeably after two years, but replacements can be installed to breathe some new life into what will still be a good phone. Apple uses stainless steel on the Pro models, which is more durable, and it said the glass is stronger than ever. You might still want to slap on a case, though.

I do find it extremely conservative of Apple to continue the 64GB base model given that the majority of the competition has switched over to GB as a minimum. Shifting gears, let's talk about what's on the outside of the new iPhones. As this isn't a year where Apple is introducing a major design change to the phones — with essentially serving as a second 'S' year — Apple has largely left well enough alone in terms of phone designs.
So looking at the front of the phones, you won't find that much has changed. This also means that Apple hasn't touched the display dimensions, which continue to range from 5. Calling it their Super Retina XDR display, the new model now promises higher brightness levels of up to nits in regular content, and up to nits in HDR content.
Meanwhile the iPhone 11 display remains the same as last year: this is again an LCD and comes at a lower resolution of x pixels. Otherwise, the rear of the new phones has changed more substantially, at least as far as glass back designs can change.
Battery: iPhone 11 Pro battery life has really improved
Accommodating Apple's newest cameras and the Pro's larger triple sensor setup, the Apple logo has been shifted down from the upper third of the body to the center, and the new camera housing and design definitely attracts your attention. A very large and actually practical design change on the Pro models is a new frosted chemically-etched matte surface. The regular iPhone 11, in contrast, retains a glossy back, which is paired with a matte camera rectangle.
This comes with the usual disadvantages of it being a classical finger-print magnet. The regular iPhone 11 is the most non-eventful here as it only sees a 5. Yet even with this capacity bump, Apple has held the weight of the phone to g, identical to the iPhone XR.

The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, on the other hand, have received substantial battery capacity increases. The 11 Pro gets a This larger battery causes the phone's weight to increase by 11g, with the smallest of the iPhones now weighting g. This adds a further 18g to the weight of the phone, bringing it to a hefty g altogether. Part of the reason why Apple has been able to increase the capacity of the 11 Pro Max's battery by so much as compared to the 11 Pro is due to a change in the layout of the battery itself.
For the 11 Pro max, Apple has switched from a dual-cell battery configuration to a single-cell L-shaped battery ; this effectively increases the actual battery volume inside the phone. And regardless of whether the battery capacity changes were the cause or the effect, Apple has increased the body thickness of the Pro models by 0.
Otherwise, the iPhone 11 retains the same thickness as the XR. The cameras modules each have their own dedicated circular raised metallic ring housing around them, but because this is now transitioned by the raised glass rectangle element, it no longer feels nearly as sharp as on Apple's earlier phones.
