In the shot of the Halloween wreath below, only the iPhone was able to capture the true color of the wall without dulling the orange and gold balls.

Both the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 4 shifted the balance to purer white, with the Pixel 4 dulling the color and the sheen as a result. The Pixel 4 XL left shifted the white balance, which dulled the colors a bit, while the Pixel 3 XL right was a little closer but still too blue. The iPhone 11 center was the most accurate. If anything, the Pixel 3 does a slightly better job with handling skin tones and color. The both did an admirable job, but the iPhone was consistently just a little better, as you can plainly see in the photo below.

Both the Pixel 4 left and iPhone 11 right brightened this super-dark nighttime scene, but Apple retains the shadows and spookiness while Google blows out the ambiance a bit. And I have to assume that anyone who buys a Pixel 4 cares about such subtleties.

The Face unlock and Google Assistant bugs are too glaring to overlook, and Motion Sense is in desperate need of new features. Even the Pixel launcher and the promise of three years of Android updates are less of a reason to buy, as Samsung ups its game with One UI. Naturally, the phone is running the latest version of Android 10, with up-to-date security as well.

Android 10 itself brings great new features like a system-wide dark theme, an improved gesture navigation system, as well as more transparency about what apps are accessing your location data and other sensors on the phone. What keeps me coming back to Pixel phones, outside of the camera, are several of the helpful features that are powered by machine learning.

The Motion Sense gestures also fall into this category of helpful features that make a small impact on my day-to-day use of the phone. A new app called Personal Safety offers up peace of mind, allowing the phone to alert your preset emergency contacts in the event of an emergency, and the Pixel 4 can even detect car crashes through sensors on the phone. My favorite new addition is the Recorder app , which can transcribe interviews in real-time.

It automatically generates captions for any video with audio, and all of this happens on the device. Not only does the UI look significantly nicer, taking up less space on the screen, but the best addition is Continued Conversation.

Assistant has improved in many other ways. Looking at a photo you like? The phone had no trouble handling any of the apps I typically use, opening them up quickly. Switching between apps and even multitasking is a snappy affair. Google, you need to bump up storage options and make GB the standard. All the amazing features on this phone are overshadowed by the battery Google decided to pack inside. If I wanted to extend my night out and hit a restaurant or bar, my phone would die around or 10 p.

Toss in a bigger battery, Google! Do what Apple did this year and make your phone thicker.
