Lately more and more smartphones feature a pop-up or slider camera. Other manufacturers followed soon, first Xiaomi with the Mi Mix 3 and earlier this month Samsung, with the Galaxy A It seems Huawei will also introduce their first smartphone with a pop-up camera soon.

In the meantime, our friends over at MobielKopen found out that the Huawei P Smart Z will be the companies first smartphone with a pop-up camera. Bringing flagship innards and software down to the mid-range a year or so later is very common anyway.
Few consumers are interested in older internals at flagship prices. At least not without major improvements to photography or other capabilities, which may or may not be possible. Even if Huawei improved its camera capabilities and memory configurations, high-end customers demand bleeding-edge performance and new features, which would break GMS compatibility.
