Until now I have used the gallery app on my Samsung Android phone to view and manage photos. I recently activated the Google photos app and allowed it to backup my photos online. That went pretty well but it refused to backup over cell data even though I changed the setting to allow it.

Meaning if I had photos in my Samsung gallery when I activated Google photos, do I now have an additional files copies created by Photos when backing up and syncing stored somewhere on the phone such that I have files total? I thought it might be a single pool because when I look in the file manager I can only see what looks to be the original copies of my photos. I experimented with deleting a photo from Google photos and it disappeared from the Samsung gallery display. But when I deleted a photo in the Gallery, it did not disappear from Google Photos?

I want to be able to delete them using gallery and then have them be removed from google photos on the device and on the web. Wanda Schmidt-Day. I want all my photos ever posted in any of my phones. Based on my experience I confirm that deleting a photo from the Gallery won't delete the photo from Google Photos. But deleting a photo from Google Photo will delete the photo in the Gallery of your smartphone. Moreover, and dangerous, suppose you have 3 copies of one photo distributed through 3 different folders in your Gallery: if you delete this photo from Google Photo, it will delete the whole 3 photos in the Gallery of your smartphone!
