When I first opened the box and took out the Samsung Galaxy A50 I thought someone at Samsung was messing around with me by sending a S10 or something. The phone is black, but the back has that same cool rainbow effect we see on the new Note 10 Plus. Angling the back in light has the phone showing off lovely colors. Samsung called the phone material "glastic" since it is a very glossy plastic that looks almost like the glass back phones we see on the flagships. I'm perfectly fine with an attractive plastic phone since it is less likely to break when dropped. It is still quite a fingerprint magnet, but wipes off easily too.
The large 6. The top and side bezels are only about a millimeter while the bottom bezel is about three times the width of these other bezels. The fingerprint scanner is also under the display, but uses an optical one as we see on the OnePlus 7 Pro and other Android phones.
It's been more reliable for me than the ultrasonic one on the Note 10 Plus so I have zero issues with using this type of fingerprint scanner. I would have been perfectly fine with a rear capacitive one like we see on the Note 9 too. There is no Bixby button either. The power button can be configured to launch Bixby if you desire though, again just like the Note 10 series. On the bottom we find a 3. The mono speaker is loud enough for reasonably watching videos and holding conference calls.

There is nothing on the top of the phone. Swinging around the back we see the two cameras and depth sensor in a triple opening vertical array with the flash positioned below the depth sensing lens. Samsung branding is also found on the glastic back. The May security patch is currently found on this test unit, which is a bit disappointing since Samsung has shown a solid track record of security patch updates on the flagship phones. Not sure if there is a challenge updating an Xfinity Mobile model, but we should at least see these appear one or two months after general release.
One UI is a great update to previous versions of the Samsung Experience and is quickly becoming my favorite non-Pixel flavor of Android. LG should pay attention to what Samsung has done and take a hard look at its UI with future releases. One UI offers a clean user experience with gesture-based navigation options too. I finally moved away from the standard three-button Android navigation controls and am embracing full screen gestures on Android as I did with iOS.
Thankfully, Samsung still includes its own apps, such as email, calendar, contacts, image gallery, music player, and web browser software. All of these offer more than the stock Google apps, and while others move to purely stock Google apps, there is still a ton of value in these Samsung applications that offer more for the enterprise user.
This phone is not loaded with bloatware so the internal storage is yours to fill up with your favorite apps, games, and data.

If you are not a Comcast internet subscriber, then you are not qualified to sign up for Xfinity Mobile service. If you are an internet subscriber, then there are two plan offerings available for your consideration. You can sign up for a plan by the gig or sign up as an unlimited customer. There are no activation fees, no minimum contracts, and if you bring your own qualified phone you get a SIM card for free.
These data allotments are shared between all of the lines you enabled, with a limit of five lines per account. For my family of five, I could not have any tablets or smartwatches connected if each person had a phone line account. You can setup unlimited service for select phones and then have the rest share the By the Gig data allotment too. Given that some of my family members currently use more than 10GB of data each, I might be able to have a couple of unlimited phones and then the rest under a By the Gig option, but so far my T-Mobile One Military option, with free Netflix, is unbeatable.
There are some fantastic deals with Xfinity Mobile for those who bring their own phone or buy one of the new phones on promotion. Xfinity Mobile offers deals as pre-paid gift cards after the purchase is made and service is setup. The 25 MP primary lens has been touted as a low light sensor and I would have to say that I was not disappointed for the most part.

The camera also had good noise reduction which is not what I can say for the Poco F1. However, there were instances when the camera failed to recognise low-light scenes and produced a dull image lacking in exposure and detail. Apart from that, the Poco F1 had more details and better exposure calibration as compared to the Galaxy A Low light performance aside, the phone captures highly colourful images in daylight scenes and also showcases a wide dynamic range. The Poco F1 does not click the most colour accurate photos nor does it have the most dynamic range, but it does get more details in the image.

For most people that is not a deal breaker as vibrant and colourful photos are the in fashion. The third lens is a depth sensor which is used for live bokeh shots. The bokeh effect or Live Focus also works well, with background separation working more times than not. In terms of video, the phone takes good stable videos which can be attributed to the EIS on the device. Apart from that at night, the videos look to be decent, but the secondary ultra-wide sensor does a very botched job. The phone can also record videos in slow motion at p fps.

Pulling down on the notifications tray covers the entire screen with icons making them easier to reach out to using just your thumb. In general, all icons are now big they can be scaled down and there is less information cramped in the menus than before.
Apart from that, the software is quite customisable with different themes and skins. It appears that Samsung has kept in mind users with smaller hands, those who are tired of using the search option for finding basic settings, while designing OneUI. There is still the question of bloatware such as the duplicate apps for the gallery, browser, and also the Galaxy Store, which take up space on the home screen and are non-removable but they don't seem to slow down the UI.
The digital wellbeing feature was a nice addition however, telling you how many times you have unlocked your phone is the only benefit I could get from it. I hope that Samsung builds on this UI to perfect it even more and give its fanbase the proper Android experience. The Galaxy A50 is a sturdy phone and also appears to be fancy at the same time.
We received the Blue coloured variant which does look eye-catching indeed. On the bottom of the phone, there is a type-C charging port, along with a single speaker unit and a headphone jack. The left side of the phone is flat save for the hybrid dual-SIM card slot. On the right, there are the volume rocker buttons and the power switch. The device has no physical fingerprint scanner as Samsung has decided to adopt an in-display fingerprint sensor. On the front, we have an Infinity U display which is just a fancy way of saying a drop-notch display and there is a chin which is just as big as the one on the Poco F1.
The device has a subtle elegant finish to it and feels quite balanced and slim to hold which makes it better than the Poco in terms of design. Unfortunately, performance has never the forte for Samsung in its mid-range smartphones, or at least performance worth the money. Not since Xiaomi came to the party anyways. Benchmarks don't tell the whole story but it does point us in the general direction regarding the performance of the device. The in-display fingerprint sensor is an area of issue for me. It does not act as accurately as I have come to expect from optical scanners.
There is no illumination of the spot where I have to place my finger often forcing me to guess this is with the AOD switched on.

Face unlock works better but has an added caveat of having to swipe the screen after the phone has been authenticated. Audio on the device is quite good and so is the single speaker unit, which is not quite loud but is crisp and has better quality than most speakers in its category. The call quality and the earpiece are also as good as I had expected.

While it isn't quite the humongous 5, mAh battery offered on the Galaxy M30, the A50 still has a lot of juice in it. The phone comes with a 4, mAh battery which has lasted me for more than an entire day of normal usage which includes streaming 6 episodes of Made In Heaven having a runtime of nearly minutes. Granted it was on Wi-Fi rather than mobile data, but I still believe that the A50 has ample battery for normal users of the phone. Is the Galaxy A50 a great smartphone for its price? In some cases definitely and in some cases not so much.
The phone's display, camera, and battery are the highlights with OneUI coming as a welcome change. Performance is something that still leaves a lot to be desired, at least if Samsung plans to compete in the same space as Poco. The Galaxy A50 is a great buy for users who want a great display and decent cameras. Overall, the phone is great for someone who is interested in taking photos and consuming video content but not so much for someone who likes to game. Could Samsung improve the performance in its mid-tier segment? Considering the Snapdragon it was offering last year for Rs 18, on the J8 and now shifting to the much faster Exynos SoC on the A50, I'd say Samsung is moving in the right direction.
At Rs 19,, I'd recommend the Samsung Galaxy A50 if you are looking for smartphone with a slimmer profile with a focus on design, a smaller notch, a great AMOLED display, decent camera and good battery life.
