In this review, we are going to talk about the Redmi K20, which is more or less similar to the Pro variant but comes with just a couple of minor differences. The Redmi K20 looks stunning, feels premium in the hands thanks to the glass body , is powerful despite its Snapdragon processor, captures decent pictures, and offers outstanding battery life.
I have spent around 10 days with the Redmi K20 and I believe the phone is absolutely worth the price of Rs 21, Despite being cheaper than the Redmi K20 Pro, the Redmi K20 comes with the exact same design that the more expensive phone sports.
Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro
I'm using the Glacier Blue colour variant of the phone and must say that the phone looks stunning from all angles - front, back and sides. I personally prefer the Carbon Fiber Black, though. Despite the glass and metal body the Redmi K20 weighs just grams and doesn't feel heavy or bulky in the hands, which is great. The Redmi K20 uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both front and back, which makes the phone feel premium, as well as I believe, makes it sturdy.
The Aura Prism Design adds up to the overall design. This is also due to the Aura design that the phone looks different compared to its peers in the market.
Another good bit is that the Redmi K20 is a polished phone. The edges of the Redmi K20 Pro are nicely curved and that makes it easy to hold and use the phone with one hand. It helps that the size is just right. It doesn't feel too big or small in the hand. Overall the Redmi K20 offers a pretty neat design and solid build quality. No complaints here. The screen of the phone measures 6. In 10 days of usage, the screen of the Redmi K20 never seemed dull to me. In both indoor and outdoor situation the screen of the phone turns out to be extremely bright.
Indoors, keeping the brightness between 40 to 50 per cent is adequate, while outdoors I usually increase the brightness level to 80 - This allowed me to watch videos even under the blazing sun. The Redmi K20 comes with different screen modes -- automatic brightness and reading mode - that users can adjust.
The Redmi K20 has slim bezels, something that results in a screen-to-body ratio of Beneath the screen of the K20, there is the 7th generation in-display fingerprint sensor. I primarily used it to unlock the phone as it is quick and efficient, unlike the face unlock that is slow. The pop-up camera of the phone includes the face unlock technology as well but it isn't very reliable.
HIGHLIGHTS
This is mostly because the face unlock takes a lot of time to unlock the phone thanks to the slow pop-up mechanism and doesn't work in the dark. This is one of the key areas where the Redmi K20 differs from its Pro version. The Redmi K20 is powered by Snapdragon processor that theoretically offers 25 per cent better performance when compared to Snapdragon SoC.
But the Snapdragon in the K20 Pro is a top-end processor. However, the Snapdragon seems to be a very capable chip. While using the K20, I never ran into performance issues or lags. The Redmi K20 handles everything you are likely to do smoothly and without any stutters. The phone loads apps in a jiffy even when several apps are running in the background. Scrolling through social media apps like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram is smooth.

I'm also impressed with the gaming performance of the K A minute session of PUBG and Asphalt on high graphics run smooth, with no noticeable drop in frame rate. Xiaomi has optimized the software of the Redmi K20 series pretty well. MIUI offers option between navigation keys and gestures. The MIUI 10 also brings features like anti-flicker mode, reading mode, second space, dual apps, among other things.
Redmi Note 9 Pro Review: Big screen budget phone with more hits than misses
They are there. But there aren't too many of them like other Redmi phones. So it's an improvement. It should be noted that the users go to the Settings to turn off the ads. Here's how you can turn off ads on MIUI. The Redmi K20 comes with three cameras on the back, and single sensor on the front that pops out when the selfie camera mode is turned on in the camera app. The differences between two sensors are minor, and only when you are recording 4K videos. So, how is the camera performance of the Redmi K20? The performance is as good as what you get with the K20 Pro, even though the main 48MP sensor is different.
And for its price, this camera performance is great but it is not as good as what a few other flagship phones, which cost more, can offer.
So basically, the difference is in FPS rate in extremely high-resolution videos, likely because Snapdragon may not be able to handle the bandwidth required for 60FPS 4K video capture while the Snapdragon in the K20 Pro can. Overall, the pictures clicked with the Redmi K20 main camera look crisp, vibrant, and details are captured well, especially in daylight.
Gone are the days when Xiaomi used to straddle with a one-year old version of Android OS with the promise of the next version coming in an update. Higher expectations with the brand and fierce competition from other Chinese vendors have made them offer latest software and hardware in new phones. It has a lot of fluff, but many of them are actually useful. Not to forget that it is one of the most polished looking custom UIs in Android out there.
Among rivals in the budget segment, Realme is catching up and has a very user friendly and good looking custom UI as well. The Snapdragon G does use a gaming optimised chipset but it is not in the same league as the Redmi K20 Pro and on higher graphics settings frame drops are clearly visible. Multiple cameras are becoming the norm in budget phones.
The Redmi K20 Pro is my favorite ever Xiaomi phone
To cover all shooting scenarios, the Redmi Note 9 Pro has got a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra wide angle camera to capture more objects in the scenario, 5MP macro camera for really close up shots of tiny objects and 2MP depth camera for Bokeh shots. The 48MP camera is not active by default but there is a shortcut button on the camera app screen.
The macro mode is tucked away in the camera menu.

Close-up shots with the macro camera do not look very sharp but in good light can come in very handy and add variety to your Instagram posts. The 48 MP camera can pull in a lot of detail and even in landscape photos impresses with colour reproduction. Shots in indoor conditions look a bit washed out, though. The 16MP front camera doesn't have as many modes, but it can muster sharp looking photos in well lit conditions, which makes it good enough for regular selfies. It has a smaller 6.
