Admittedly I had the display running at 90 Hz permanently, but I stand by my decision on that one. If you are going to offer a silky-smooth display, don't take it away from me on a whim because the battery is suffering. So you will barely have enough battery to get through your commute and a full day at work in most cases, and that's just with normal usage.
If you play games or start taking lots of photos you might need to reach for the charger before your lunch has even settled. Compared to the battery improvements Apple made with the iPhone 11s this year, Google has gone the opposite way. A full charge takes about minutes and you can hit 75 percent charge in about 45 minutes.
The Google Pixel 4 XL Review: Stuck In The Past In 12222
If you buy a Pixel 4 this year, you will soon become familiar with these numbers, trust me. The Pixel 4 is a smartphone that, as a professional reviewer, I struggle to recommend. From a technical point of view, it's impressive. The radar-based Motion Sense stuff is cool, but it's half baked at the moment and what you are really investing in here is the future potential rather than the functionality you get out of the box today.
And yet, despite all of that, I am going to keep using the Pixel 4 as my daily driver.
How can we help?
I loved the Pixel 3a , and the latest flagship still represents the best compact Android smartphone in my opinion. In terms of performance and the camera, it has everything I need and I am converted to 90 Hz displays to the point of no return. Sure, I will be charging the thing twice a day and probably ignoring Motion Sense for now, but I'm not ready to put it back in the box yet. It says a lot about the death of compact Android phones that even this Pixel 4, with all its flaws, is still top of the class. I wanted to get a compact phone this year, i don't like my Htc u11 form factor, and today phones are even larger.
The only contenders were iPhone 11 pro, Samsung s10e and pixel 4. That's euros difference. If i lived in the US, i had gone to the iPhone 11 pro in a heart bit, even if i prefer the android ecosystem. This year iPhone got all the boxes right.

I only went to the pixel, because it's there is no real competition to compact flagship phones anymore. I really like the base model pixal4. But as a power user the mamp battery is definitely a bit paltry.
Google Pixel 4 XL review
I still can't believe how Google came up with this decision, what, huh? Plus there are no incentives in the box. I'm trying real hard to like this phone, but can't pull the trigger!
