Oxygen OS feels similar to the iteration we saw last year with the Android Pie update but it improves in areas where it matters. The animations are fast and fluid, and apps open without any annoying delay. Consider this recurring issue - while listening to music via wireless earphones, the app would be force closed every time you pause the song - isn't this annoying on the move? Nonetheless, ignoring these small niggles, Oxygen OS is by far the best iteration of Android and it delivers a polished smartphone experience.
When it comes to cameras, OnePlus phones have been just good, not great.
OnePlus 7T review: design and screen
With the OnePlus 7, it's certainly better than before but not Pixel-levels of performance. On paper, the new megapixel Sony IMX primary camera paired with the 5-megapixel depth camera for the rear sounds good. Theoretically, it should be better than the OnePlus 6T's dual camera setup.
The front retains the good old megapixel selfie camera. Many phones use the megapixel Sony camera and it all depends on how well the manufacturer has tuned it.

OnePlus has done a brilliant job in this regards when it comes to daylight photography. Since this camera sensor relies on pixel binning to get more light data, it gives the camera algorithms to ensure lots of details and vibrant colours. The daylight performance is more in sync with a Google Pixel 3 than an iPhone XR - the camera is enhancing the colour saturation and brightness to deliver a visually appealing photo. As a smartphone user, I like it and I don't always have to hit the editing app.
Portrait mode photos look good and the subject separation from the background is much better than before. Unlike some other Chinese phones, the blurring is done elegantly. When it comes to low-light performance, the OnePlus 7 struggles noticeably. The photos lose sharpness and noise creeps up. However, the camera massively enhances the contrast and colours to ensure usable photos. If you know your way with phone cameras, then under favourable lighting, you will be able to get decent photos.
The Nightscape mode will help you get more clear photos in absolute dark conditions but it struggles with exposure and isn't as good as the night mode on a Pixel 3. When it comes to videos, I would say the performance is on par with what you get on other Android phones. In 4K videos at 60fps, the colours are vibrant but the details aren't that great.
Same stands for p videos at 60fps as well as 30 fps. Videos also pick up a lot of noise even in silent rooms. For casual video shooting, it will do a decent job but don't expect iPhone-level of quality here. The wide-angle lens also doubles up as a macro lens which shoots images as close as 2. The telephoto lens offers not-so-great colours and bumps up the contrast, making the shadows darker. Things get bad when you zoom into an image only to find some loss of details.
Again, the telephoto image has a different profile when you compare it to the primary or the ultra-wide lens. When it comes to lowlight performance, the camera does a decent job with noise reduction. The sharpness and exposure were a bit on the aggressive side in some cases.

But if you think about it as a flagship device, the camera performance is the only department which restricts the OnePlus 7T from being the ultimate smartphone. There is a 16MP front camera that captures a good amount of detail. Skin tone and softness were kept on a check, without the need of making it too smooth like many smartphones do these days. However, the camera struggles a bit in some cases and blurs out the edges of hair and ears.
The OnePlus 7T is a great phone for Rs 37, OnePlus has always been known as a performance-focused smartphone brand for an economical price. The trend continues with the OnePlus 7T, which offers the latest set of hardware with the best of Android experience. If you think you are happy to skip these, then the OnePlus 7T is the one you must buy. With the OnePlus 7T, you get the Pro features at an affordable price. It is a definite upgrade over the OnePlus 7 and brings in the best features from the Pro models.
If you ask me my favourite upgrades on the 7T, I will pick the 90Hz refresh rate and that charging speed which is the best amongst the competition. However, I wish the battery could have been bigger. The cameras, although not bad, could have been better. However, it is not the only smartphone available in its price segment. ROG Phone 2 is its closest competitor when it comes to spec sheet and performance. Others like Pixel 3a, Reno 2, and even the Redmi K20 Pro do offer great specifications for the price. Reno 2 Review is another versatile smartphone that offers a quad-camera setup with up to 20x digital zoom.
You do not get the smooth 90Hz experience. In case you play a lot of games on your smartphone, the ROG Phone 2 is definitely a better combination for the hardware and price it offers.
